Street Fighter 2 - Arcade Game Cabinet - Added 15/01/2021
And now for something completely different…
So as you can tell from my other posts I’m a big street fighter fan, this iconic game captured my imagination more than most others did and since first seeing a Street Fighter 2 Arcade Cabinet in the early 90s I vowed that I would one day own one.
Sure the Super Nintendo version was great, but when you put them side by side, the original always wins.
So fast-forward to 2019, and after years of keeping a lookout for one, I got talking to a friend at a local retro gaming shop and finally got the opportunity to own an SF2 cabinet! Or more precisely the bare bones of one…
So it was cosmetically in a pretty rough state when I bought it, a UK ‘generic’ cabinet that had been fitted out with a SF2 arcade kit. We hardly ever saw the American style ‘Dynamo’ SF2 cabinets over here. But that was all ok, I was planning on putting my own spin on this anyway.
So the project began! Firstly I needed replacement parts, there were some essential bits missing (like the game itself!), plus some parts had definitely seen better days. After a month or so of gathering what I needed (and teaching myself about arcade jamma setups) I finally fired it up and the world warriors were ready for battle!
Stage 2 was to strip the whole thing down again and give it a complete visual overhaul to match the style used on the original SF2 World Warrior Cabinets which has an iconic 90s look to it!
So after several weeks of sanding, painting, creating artwork, re-assembling and re-wiring, my Street Fighter II Arcade is finally complete and working!
It sure took a while, but was undoubtedly one of the most rewarding projects I’ve ever done…
